Private George Blencowe


136309 Private George Blencowe was born in Northampton England on September 30, 1871. At the time of  his enlistment in Toronto on August 17, 1915. Private Blencowe was one month shy of the cut off age for enlistment, 45 years.  Private Blencowe resided in Newmarket and was single, his trade was listed as a labourer. He had served in the 12th York Rangers prior to his enlistment, but was not serving in any militia regiment at the time.  

Private Blencowe would eventually die on March 22, 1933 at the age of 61.

Private William Alexander Amos


928834 Private William Alexander Amos was born in Puslich, (near Cambridge), Ontario on December 11, 1882.  At the time of his enlistment on April 26, 1916 he was residing in Guelph, Ontario with his wife Frances and was a blacksmith by trade.  Private Amos eventually died on April 4, 1923 at the age of 41, five years after returning from his military service.

Sergeant Walter H. Bassett




778929 Sergeant Walter Henry Bassett was born in Randwick, England on February 13, 1874.  At the time of his enlistment he was residing in Richmond Hill, Ontario and was a master tailor by profession.  Sergeant Bassett was married to Comfort Bassett who according to his attestation paper was still living in England when he enlisted. He was already a member of the 12th. Regiment, York Rangers when he enlisted in the 127th York Rangers O.S. Bn on February 4th, 1916 at the age of 42.  Sergeant Bassett would eventually die on March 26th, 1938 at the age of 64.

Private Ezra Morrison


466713 Private Ezra Morrison was born in Richards Co, Ontario on February 4, 1891. At the time of his enlistment he was 26 years old a woodworker by trade and single.  He enlisted in Red Deer Alta on July 17, 1917.  He would eventually die on September 23, 1944 at the age of 53.

Lieut. Lowell Wallace Wood


Lieutenant Lowell Wallace Wood was born in Lloydtown, Ontario on June 5, 1891.  He was already serving as an officer in the 12th York Rangers at the time he joined the 220th O.S. Bn C.E.F in Toronto on May 22, 1916.  Like his cousin Lieut James Wallace, see his entry in this blog, he was a barrister-at-law.

Lieutenant Wood would die on October 17, 1918 at the age of 27 in one of the last battles of WWI.  He is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery in France.

Private George A. Hedderson


9922 Private George A. Hedderson Jr. was born on April 26, 1882 in  Kilkenny Ireland.  He enlisted at the age of 32 on September 22, 1914 in Valcartier Que. At the time of his enlistment he was single, and had served 4 years in the U.S Navy. His trade upon enlistment was that of a rope and twine maker.  Private Hedderson would return from his service in France and he would eventually die on May 31, 1944 at the age of 72.
